State Pension payments to rise in April

State Pension and benefits will shoot up by 3.1% in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The DWP confirmed the upcoming rise will come into effect from April.

This means the basic State Pension will increase to £141.85 per week.

The full rate of new State Pension will increase to £185.15.

The DWP said: “In taking this decision, the government carefully considered the fairest approach for both pensioners and younger taxpayers, many of whom have been hardest hit by the financial impacts of the pandemic.”

It was confirmed after The Social Security (Up-rating of Benefits) Act 2021 received Royal Assent in November.

This legislation temporarily suspended the earnings of elements of the Triple Lock for one year only, following distortions to the earning statistics due to the pandemic.

The “exceptional circumstances” resulted in this one year-response.

The earning element of the Triple Lock is expected to return next year.

Other benefits are also expected to see an increase in line with the CPI of 3.1%.

These include:

  • Working-age benefits
  • Benefits with additional needs arising from disability
  • Carer’s benefits
  • Pensioner premiums in income-related benefits
  • Statutory Payments
  • Additional State Pension

Victoria Secret Shocks With First Down Syndrome Model

Victoria’s Secret has stunned the population as their first model with down syndrome stars in their new campaign.

Sofia Jirau from Puerto Rico plays a significant role in the new Victoria’s Secret ‘Love Cloud’ collection.

The Love Cloud collection is a new standard for sophisticated comfort with soft to the touch fabric for flexibility.

Jirau is one of ’18 dynamic women from a myriad of backgrounds’ to participate in such an event.

Taking to Instagram, Sofia announced how excited she was to be part of the campaign by saying ‘One day I dreamed it, I worked for it and today it’s a dream come true.’

Since then, Sofia has become quite the hit in magazines including Vogue.

In 2019, she became the proud owner of Alavett, also translated as ‘I love it.’ Writing on her website ‘inside and out, there are now limits!’ Sofia is trying to break the stigma against down syndrome.

It appears Victoria’s Secret are attempting a rebrand after Raul Martinez became its head creative director.

VS has been known for its ‘normalised discrimination’ and this could be seen as the first breakaway from the stereotype.

Martinez said “Love Cloud Collection is a major moment in the brand’s evolution”

Further adding “this campaign is an important part of the new Victoria’s Secret standard we are creating”

We are looking forward to what else VS and Sofia Jirau have in store!
